Do children reallly think of killing their parents? Hopefully, not many do. We have the Menendez brothers still in jail accused of killing their parents. Did they do it for the money? Is their life better in jail? I think not.
In Bradbury's story "The Veldt" the children killed their parents because they were unhappy that their parents were going to turn off their house. They would have to take their own baths and tie their own shoes.
Technology ruined this family's relationship. The children were in control of the parents. They allowed the children to rule the roost. In the end the children won, or did they?

Today space travel is a fantasy for many. The family in "The Gift" boarded a spaceship for a family trip as we would board an airplane. Maybe one day we will have affordable individual space flight available to us. The movie Star Trek has transporters "beaming people up" and shows automobile sized shuttle craft that fly into space with ease. Americans have the dream of traveling into space. We dream....we will succeed.
